How to Use the Discovery Journal

June 8, 2022

The Discovery Journal is a major part of the National Bible Bee’s Summer Study, and in this post I will explain how to use it. Over this summer, those participating in the Summer Study will receive either a digital or physical copy of the Discovery Journal, which is a guide to help participants study God’s Word in a deeper way.

The Discovery Journal is divided into 8 different units, and each unit is divided into 5 lessons, and each lesson has two parts, Navigate and Explore. Navigate is the first part of the lesson, and helps give a good overview and better understanding of the passage being studied. Explore is the second part of the lesson, and it goes much deeper than the first part of the lesson, and it teaches you to unlock many more truths by using different tools such as dictionaries, studying original language, cross-references and many more.

Now that can seem like quite a bit of information, but to make it simple, think of it this way:

Unit: Designed to be finished in a week

Lesson: Designed to be finished in a day

Navigate: First part of the lesson, helps you get a good understanding of the Scripture passage.

Explore: Second part of the lesson, helps you go deeper and understand more truth in the Scripture.

There are also 2 Scripture memory passages that are designed to be memorized each week that go along with the study, and you can see which passages these are at the top of the Navigate and Explore pages in the Discovery Journal.

If you have more questions about the specifics of using the Discovery Journal, in the front of it from pages vii-xi you can find more information on how to do each section. And if you have any further questions, you can also ask on the National Bible Bee Social Community.
