Three Lessons from Investing in Scripture

October 13, 2020

Do you ever wonder if studying the Bible is worth it? Or, if you have competed in the National Bible Bee, do you ever get discouraged by the countless hours you put in? Well today I would like to encourage you to not lose heart! One of the really amazing things about the Bible is that it is living and powerful and the Lord promises that His Word will not return void. So anytime you spend in the Word is an investment that will surely show forth in your life!

I aged out of the National Bible Bee 2 years ago and already I have been so grateful for the Lord’s grace in how He has used what I learned from the National Bible Bee to impact and equip me for where I am in my life right now.

It helps me fight temptations. Throughout my time competing in the National Bible Bee, I memorized thousands of verses and even though I have not been able to retain them all, it is amazing how God allows my mind to remember certain verses when I am being tempted. When I have been faced with lies, God allows me to remember truths that I have studied and hidden in my heart from my time in the National Bible Bee.

It has helped me minister to others. Since competing in the National Bible Bee, God has given me several opportunities to witness to unsaved people. I have been so blessed to be able to share the things the Lord taught me through doing the National Bible Bee. The National Bible Bee helped me grasp overall concepts, principles and truths that the Bible has which has equipped me in sharing and explaining my faith to those around me. When people have asked me questions about my faith, I have felt equipped to share with them scripture which I have learned to point them to truth.

It has helped me stay grounded in truth. You can never be done studying the Word of the Lord. Even after hours of studying it, it only gives you more of a thirst and hunger to learn about Jesus and His truth.  The National Bible Bee helped me to build a discipline in studying and memorizing the Word. It gave me a love for being in the Word and it has caused me to build habits in my daily life to read and memorize the Bible. I am so grateful for how the Lord uses these habits and disciplines to draw me closer in my relationship to Him.

If you are discouraged with studying the Word, or maybe not studying enough of it, have faith! You will sow what you reap. The more time you spend in the Word, the more you will reap the spiritual blessings and benefits. God has made a promise about His Word, and He never breaks His promises. Take time to invest into the Word and be amazed with how the Lord works in your life!

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
