Why Should I Sign Up for the Summer Study?

March 9, 2022

Are you looking for something to do this summer? Maybe you’re wondering how you can best spend those months productively. Or perhaps you have a packed summer planned, and you want to make sure that in the midst of the chaos you’re spending time in the Word of God. Maybe you’re on a Bible reading plan at the moment, but you feel like you want to take it up to the next level and dive into scripture in a deep and substantive way. If any of these describe you, I’d encourage you to take a look at the National Bible Bee Summer Study, which is designed to help you dig deep into the life-changing Word of God, something we’re all called to do as Christians.

Studying the Bible isn’t an easy activity, and it can certainly be time-consuming if you truly invest yourself in it. As the saying goes, “you get out of something what you put into it.” Everything worth having takes work, and it’s the same with Bible study. If you set aside time to pursue this discipline, you’ll get a lot out of it. You might not see the benefits of it in the short-term, but you undoubtedly will in the long-term. You might think it’s more work than it’s worth, but you will not regret persevering in it to the end. Immersing yourself in the Word of God will change the way you think, the way you communicate, and the actions you take in a way that can only be truly understood by experience.

“But how do I study the Bible?” You might ask. It’s true that Bible study isn’t something that is commonly taught, and the “Bible study” of most Christians ends with their daily reading of a few chapters, if that. Bible study, however, is so much more than the rote reading of Scripture. This forgotten discipline deserves to be revisited and valued for the benefits it holds for living the Christian life. This is exactly what the Summer Study and the Discovery Journal are designed to do: equip you with the knowledge and the tools you need to study the Bible for yourself. Rather than telling you what to think about Scripture, as many materials out there do, the Discovery Journal teaches you how to think about Scripture. By understanding this, you are able to hear from God directly through the study of His Word, and draw out its true meaning on your own. In addition, the Summer Study also includes memory passages so you can internalize the Word as you’re studying it. The value of knowing how to study and internalize God’s Word, and making a regular habit of doing it, cannot be understated. Doing this consistently has changed my life in tremendous ways, and it will change yours as well.

Does it sound exciting? Intimidating? Refreshing? Whether you’re a new or mature Christian, you will benefit from taking part in the Summer Study. If this is something you’d like to participate in either for yourself, or for your whole family, go to biblebee.org/summer-study for more information, and mark your calendar for March 14, which is when registration begins!
